Another job interview

With a mob called PixiFoto. They run little portrait studios in all the main shopping centres and are looking for a manager for their Boronia studio. Actually, "studio" is a bit of a misnomer - they have a little section down the back of Kmart.
Anyway, the interview went quite well I thought.
I'm not sure if it's the job for me though - not much actual photography involved.
The manager's job is more to do with promotion, touting for business, administration, etc. The interviewer told me, made it very clear in fact, that the turnover of studio managers is very high - the pressure of having to constantly be meeting targets is the cause of that apparently.
Anyway, she'll call me on Monday or Tuesday to let me know. If it's a yes then I'll get a few weeks (paid) training in another studio before taking over at Boronia.
If it's a no - back to the search.

Miniature wardrobe

Janet requested a pic of my miniature wardrobe. So here it is. Next to a DVD cover for scale.

Inside the wardrobe I found this pic of my Puss (the black cat). She was my best friend for 16 years. Here she's with her son, Hyde (Hidey-ho). Both her sons, Hyde and Jeckyll (who was black and white), were killed on the road in their second year. So sad.
Puss turned up on our doorstep one day - that'd be when I was living with the G-Man years ago. A stray. Feral. A tiny wee kitten. I started to feed her but she would never come inside. Then, one day she had two even smaller kittens with her. Still wouldn't come inside. There was another huge feral cat that had kittens under the tractor. That cat disappeared and so Puss adopted the kittens.
Then one day she just marched into the house, six kittens in tow.
And promptly took over the house.
The best friend I ever had and I still miss her every day.

The man has a charmed life.

Every time Bret Michaels thinks of Reno, he remembers what he calls the "Jimmy Page Debacle." It took place at the Lawlor Events Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, and Michaels and his band Poison were in a particularly celebratory mood.
It was lead guitarist C.C. DeVille's birthday.
"Jimmy Page came onstage with me," says Michaels, "and I had always been a Zeppelin freak. The place went insane. I was unbelievably excited, getting to play rock 'n' roll with Page. And on top of that, he was going to play my brand-new Les Paul (Gibson guitar). It was the greatest day of my life."
But Page, the legendary lead guitarist of Led Zeppelin, had not been warned of the pyro pit. Poison concerts included huge pyro shows and "there were these huge holes on stage to hold the fireworks. Page began moving toward one and it was like one of those scenes in a movie with the character going slow motion to try to stop a disaster. 'Nooooooo,' I was yelling, but he went down, luckily not landing on the fireworks, luckily not injuring himself, even though he fell 6 to 8 feet. My Les Paul snapped in half, but he got back up and continued to play with us."

seen here

And what was he doing playing with Poison?????

Don't think this car is going anywhere in a hurry.

Bit of a wild night in the old town last night. I got home at about 11pm last night, after babysitting my brother's kids, to find the driveway blocked by this tree which had come down. It has two trunks but it's just the one tree. Fortunately, the top of the tree got caught in another tree and so it didn't fall all the way to the ground. Don't think the car, not mine btw, would have survived that.

Depressing song challenge

Saw this at Shadow's.
The words of this are depressing in a way - "don't walk away in silence". A hauntingly beautiful song though.

Job Searching Blues

I was supposed to have two job interviews today.
The first one didn't even happen. I got a call yesterday about a job in a clothing store and the interview was set for 9.30 this morning. Because the line was bad the woman said she'd email me the details and the address. By this 7.30 morning I still didn't have the email so I emailed her. Said I was catching a train into the city to be there by 9ish so could she please call me on my mobile with the address of where to go. Nobody called.
I had another interview at 12, just a short tram ride out of the city. So there I was with 3 hours to kill. Right about then I was wishing I'd taken the camera with me! Would've given me something to do besides window shop.
Anyway, the second interview was for a job with Australia Post - working behind the counter in a Post Office.
Oh My God!
I had to have a medical, do a numeracy test, a typing test, a Windows 2000 test (2000!!!), a psychometric test, a problem solving test, fill out 45 million forms. I passed all the tests by the way.
3 hours later and I had to prove my identity - driver's licence, birth certificate, Medicare card and Centrelink card.
Then the shit hit the fan.
She noticed that I wasn't born in Australia. So I have to prove that I have the right to live and work in this country. I've only been here 41 years! But, I have no passport or citizenship papers (still a British citizen believe it or not). Because the family came out on an Assisted Passage (ie., the government paid the fares provided we stayed for a minimum of 2 years. We only had to pay 10 pounds each.) we didn't need visas. So there's no actual record of us arriving here. Well, I'm sure there is a record of it somewhere, there has to be.
So the whole process came to a screeching halt.
Now I have to apply to the Immigration Department to get a statement saying I do live here legally. $100 for that thank you. Jesus.
All this to sell stamps!

cacophony at its best!!

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, Jason Bonham (I think) and Neil Young. Oh man, I thought fnding Page and Plant doing a Cure song was the best - this is AWESOME. The sound is terrible, Robert Plant plays guitar too, even does a solo. The song is When The Levee Breaks. I think only Jimmy and JPJ actually stick to that song. Neil just does what Neil does. It has to be seen to be believed! Robert sings When the levee breaks, then gives up and launches into "What's That Sound", the old Buffalo Springfield classic. Neil keeps doing what he's doing. Jimmy and JPJ keep playing When The levee breaks. It's the most fantastic thing I've ever seen!

Because time is limited

Do what you wanna do, be what you wanna be

Vale Michael Lee

Posted by Picasa

Michael Lee died last Tuesday, apparently from an epileptic seizure. He first came to my attention when he played with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant on the No Quarter/Unledded album and tour. He had previously worked with Robert Plant on his Fate Of Nations tour earlier in the 90s. As a result, Robert asked him to join the Unledded project. I saw Page and Plant in Melbourne in 1995 and have watched the video and, now, the DVD countless times. No-one can touch John Bonham as a drummer but I always thought that Michael Lee came close. He really did a great job.
Michael Lee was buried today in Darlington, England. He was 39.
Jimmy attended the funeral. Robert did not.
