Stuff Portrait Friday - Song lyrics

Randomandodd hosts SPF. Pics that relate to song lyrics this week:

Ramble On - Led Zeppelin
Leaves are falling all around,
It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged
For such a pleasant stay.

But now it's time for me to go,
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain,
And with it pain,
And it's headed my way.
Ah, sometimes I grow so tired,
But I know I've got one thing I got to do,

Ramble on,
And now's the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
I'm goin' round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
Ive been this way ten years to the day, ramble on,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Leaves are falling all around, originally uploaded by jsarcadia.

Misty Mountain Hop - Led Zeppelin
Walkin' in the park just the other day, baby,
What do you, what do you think I saw?
Crowds of people sittin' on the grass with flowers in their hair said,
"Hey, Boy, do you wanna score?"
And you know how it is.
I really don't know what time it was, woh, oh,oh
so I asked them if I could stay awhile.

I didn't notice but it had got very dark and I was really
Really out of my mind.
Just then a policeman stepped up to me and asked us, said, "Please, hey,
would we care to all get in line, Get in line."
Well, you know, they asked us to stay for tea and have some fun; Oh, oh,oh.
he said that his friends would all drop by, ooh.

Why don't you take a good look at yourself and describe what you see,
and baby, baby, baby, do you like it?
There you sit, sitting spare like a book on a shelf rustin',
ah, not trying to fight it.
You really don't care if they're comin'; oh, oh,
I know that it's all a state of mind.

If you go down in the streets today, baby, you better,
you better open your eyes. WOAH WOAH YEAH
Folk down there really don't care, really don't care, don't care , really don't , which, which way the pressure lies,
so I've decided what I'm gonna do now.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains
where the spirits go now,
over the hills where the spirits fly.
I really don't know.

So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains
Credit to Janet for the mountains half of this.

Secret Garden

Did my regular Tuesday trek out to Warburton yesterday. I was a bit early to pick up Georgia from the bus stop so I wandered along the road a bit to check out this place I drive past to get to Clare's. It's right on the road so it's not that secret really :) The bit of creek comes down the hill and empties into the Yarra, which is directly behind me, across the road. It's private land on this side here so I didn't venture off the road to get better shots. No tripod with me so, to get the long exposure, I set the camera on the ground and pushed the button in hope. Turned out okay I think.

Why do I not know these things?

Man: I want a book for my mother. What do you think she'd like?
Me: Umm, what sort of books does she read?
Man: I don't know. She comes in here a lot.
Me: Sorry, but I don't know which of my customers is your mother. Crime fiction? Romance? Biographies?
Man: I think I'll just get her some flowers.
And off he went.

Friday Fill-in

1. The lasagne had an extra secret ingredient; it was my finger and its blood!
2. I see grey skies through my window.
3. Right now, I need coffee.
4. Home is where I went Thursday night; it was chaotic. People over for dinner, much red wine. No-one found my finger but the lasagne was a big hit!
5. Why does a Tetanus shot hurt so much?
6. All I can think of is the pain - in my arm (see above) and in my head (see further above).
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to an early night, tomorrow my plans include family bbq for Mother's Day and Sunday, I want to hopefully have a shower without having to wear a plastic bag on my hand!

Looking for that extra special flavour?

Bleed into your food.
I was using the very sharp kitchen knife to slice open a packet of shredded Mozzarella to put in the veggie lasagne. The knife went flying right through the packet and right through my finger as well. Well, not right through, just half way through. Ouchies! Mucho blood. After much sucking of blood the gauze and tape were found and the finger bandaged up. Then off to the hospital. Three hours I was there. By the time a doctor got around to looking at it the wound had started to close up (thanks to Sylvia for bandaging it properly!!) so stitches were not required, fortunately. So they cleaned it up, put some sterile strips over it and bandaged it up.
So now I have this whopping great bandage for people to stare at. Much nuisance value in not being able to use the index finger - just as well it's my left hand or it'd be even worse. Now I have to shower with a plastic bag taped around my hand. No doing the dishes for a week (or year) either - so maybe not that much of a nuisance :)
A bit hurties today but I think I'll survive.

Heart stopper!

Saints by 3 points over the Tigers. Oh man, what an exciting game. The lead changed so many times during the game, it really could have gone either way. Tigers had a chance to kick the winning goal right in the last second but missed. Phew big time!!
Unbelievable game.

I'm an apparently intelligent, liberal, tight as fuck, relatively well adjusted human being!
What are you?
Brought to you by Rum and Monkey

Just read the most bizarre book

Diary of an Amateur Photographer by Graham Rawle.
It's about a guy who decides he wants to be a photographer. He buys himself an old Rollieflex camera and discovers it still has film in it, which he gets developed. It turns out to be a photo of a murder victim, although he interprets it as a picture of an angel. So he sets out to find out as much as he can about the photograph.
The central character, Michael Whittingham, is one of those socially dysfunctional types who lives entirely inside his own head. People he interacts with always have to rush off to appointments, although he never realises that they just want to get away from him. When he's out and about he counts the women he sees and has sex (imaginary) with every tenth one. His imaginings lead him into quite a bit of trouble, especially when he decides to dabble in nude photography and tries to acquire a model.
As I was reading I was constantly reminded of Mr Bean. This guy is that sort of character.
Everything is recorded in his diary - which is the book. It's basically a record of the events and his bizarre interpretations of them. The book itself is set out as a diary. Whittingham's entries are typewritten (on a typewriter, not a computer) and are interspaced with other bits and pieces he's collected; photographs, newspaper ads, all sorts of odd bits and pieces. It's beautifully put together.
The crime is eventually solved - the answer is tucked away in an envelope glued to the inside back cover.
It didn't take long to read but it's a fascinating study of a man not quite in tune with the reality around him.

The idea this week was to show the different seasons on opposite sides of the world. There were a few possibilities but this is the one we chose. The U shape makes this one.

Yesterday......

Family dinner in honour of moi. Very nice it was too.

Birthday cake, of course.

The obligatory birthday cake snap.

I spent a bit of time playing around trying to take "ghost" pictures with my brother's kids. They thought the results were a bit mystifying but hilarious nonetheless. Little buggers wouldn't keep still for me though.

Ghostly kids

Clare always seems to end up with weird things on her head at these gatherings. Lunacy runs in the family. Paula and Pete, doing their best to ignore it all.

Studiously ignoring the family lunatic.

A Flickr project this week is shooting through holes. I took this one of Paula through a plastic monkey from one of the kids' games. I really like how this turned out.

Yesterday...

I was out at Warburton for my semi-regular "pick up Georgia and babysit" session. #1 niece, Holly, met me at Clare and Georgia's place as she wanted to use their computer to do some job searching. When I got back from picking up Georgia (and her friend/shadow Soul) Holly was about ready to leave. But her car wouldn't start. And it was blocking mine. Uh oh. We managed to get it out of the way enough for me to get out but, as far as I know, Holly's car is still there. I think she may have run it out of gas just quietly. That's LP gas, not petrol. Bit trickier. Hopefully she's found someone to fix the problem by now.
Anyway, on the way to pick up the G I'd noticed this carpet of Autumn leaves outside someone's house. On the way back I stopped and got Georgia to drop and toss a few around while I went snap happy with the camera. Trying to get "that" shot for a possible collaboration with Janet.
Speaking of Madame Snape - cool mention in the Poppet lady's blog. Well done!!
Anyway, here are some Leaf Tossing pics:

Too many people....

Friday night was Laura's 21st birthday party at Ruby's, a club in Belgrave. Full of youngsters! It was good to catch up with her and Kylie though, haven't really seen much of them since they moved out last month.
Saturday we had Laurie's sister and her two daughters (one adult, one child) staying with us. A few other people came over for a bbq in the evening. Argumentative lot. One of those nights when everyone was disagreeing with each others' opinions, just for the hell of it, or so it seemed to me.
Yesterday when I got home from work the house was empty. Not a single soul around. Perfect.

The Ship Song

The official video:

A lovely live version:

More on The Cavester

Nick Cave, originally uploaded by jsarcadia.

The day started with a train ride into the city. I haven't been on a train in a while. Nothing really changes though.
The first thing we (Clare and I) had to do was find a clothes shop. I'd sat on a nail or something and ripped a big hole in my favourite linen pants :( So I bought a new pair of jeans and wore them immediately.
We wandered along Swanston Street for a while, me acting the tourist with my camera.
Then we crossed the river and headed down to Southbank, along the south side of the Yarra River and mecca for yuppies everywhere. Strolled through the Arts Centre's Sunday market and then went in search of lunch. Clare had gnocchi and salad. I had a plate of Indian bits and pieces. It was nice at the time but I've had heartburn ever since.
Then we headed off to the Arts Centre. Clare suddenly stopped going "Oh shit!". She'd forgotten the tickets!!!!!!! Really. Never seen her look so pale and sick. We went up to the reception area where the show was and they were able to confirm that she had, in fact, bought tickets (credit cards are handy sometimes) and we were given "lost ticket" vouchers. Phew!!!!!
From there we went into the Nick Cave exhibition. Fascinating. It covered Nick's career from the early days with Boys Next Door right through to the present day. Lots of photographs everywhere. Bits and pieces relating to his influences, some books from his library. (A few bobs' worth there I must say!) The main focus, however, was on his notebooks. He uses these to write songs (and two novels) in. All hand written. Fascinating to see the development of his lyrics from initial couplets or verses to the finished piece.
Then we went up to the ANZ Pavilion on the top floor of the Arts Centre where the Conversation was to be held. Had a glass of champers while waiting to get in. All very civilised.
Then: The Conversation. So interesting. He was actually very funny. Lots of serious musings too but a lot of humour. The host started the ball rolling with a few questions. She was a bit of a dipstick though and her questions were naff. For example, Nick had spoken about going to Art School early on and failing second year, which seemed to have devastated him at the time. Stupid woman began her next question with "So, if you had been an artist..." I mean, he is an artist. The look on his face was priceless. From then on it was questions from the audience. He talked a lot about not having a muse as such but, rather, that writing was his job. Go to the office, sit down, write. I'm not sure that would have been the case in his earlier days when he was full of drugs and drink. Clare commented to me later that it's only a job if you're being paid for it. The unpublished writer is not looked upon as 'employed' as such. Good point.
He also spoke about fame and how he's quite happy to be able to operate more or less as normal, except perhaps in Australia. He doesn't have the papparazzi following him around at every turn and he's thankful for that. I think also, he has nothing to hide either. He's never tried to pretend that he lives a normal life with no vices or whatever. There's nothing new the papparazzi could uncover. And, also, he's straight these days so no more scandalous behaviour. Plus, he's 50.
There was also a funny story told about sitting outside his trailer at Glastonbury, or some other huge music festival (he couldn't remember which). He saw a bloke, in a big hat, walking across the mud towards him. He thought it was some roadie coming to hassle him about something or other. Anyway, the bloke reached and him held out his hand to shake, saying "thanks for the use of your song" or something like that. It was Bob Dylan. Nick wasn't sure if Bob actually knew who he was. The way the story was told was very funny. Loses a lot in the translation to here.
The four songs he sang, with long-time band member Mick Harvey accompanying him, were beautifully done. I was so pleased that they did The Ship Song, one of my all time favourite Nick Cave songs.
It was all over too soon. An hour and a half all up. I could have sat there all day listening to him.

Nick Cave

Nick Cave, originally uploaded by jsarcadia.

April 6th 2008. A Conversation With Nick Cave. He answered questions from the MC and from the audience, about his music, his muse, fame, family, his writings, all sorts of things. It was fascinating. Very funny at times too. He, along with Mick Harvey, sang four songs, including The Ship Song - one of my all time favourites. Beautiful song. He saw me taking the photo - I'm not sure if this look is disapproving or just an attempt at a cheesy grin.

Big day

Today I'm off into the city with Clare to attend A Conversation with Nick Cave at the Arts Centre. First we're going to a photography exhibition, at the same place, all about Nick. I'm so looking forward to it all. Haven't been into the city in quite a while.
I'm taking the camera in the hope that pics are allowed. The aim is to get a pic of Nick with Phone. I doubt that'll happen but, ya never know.... Hahaha, wishful thinking in the extreme.
Anyway, at least I'll get some shots of Melbourne in all its glory.
Have a good one yourself.

Collaboration - week 2

Janet and I are doing a weekly collaboration on Flickr. This week is all about reading Lord of the Rings. Tolkien.
I took the pic on the left of someone (Bilbo) reading the first page of chapter 1. Janet took the pic on the right of someone (also Bilbo) reading the book to show the cover.
Don't know about you, but I think this is just so cool. The match up of the photographs is pretty damn good if you ask me. Janet saw my pic and set hers up to match. I think she did an excellent job! I thought last week's match up was tops but this one is even better.
I'm excited by this project!!
I'm even more excited because I now have internet access at home. Woohoo!

7 goals to one in the first quarter and I thought it was going to be an easy win for the Sainters. Ha! They obviously thought they'd done enough and went home at quarter time. I don't know what the final score was, I turned the TV off and went to bed before the end. Painful.
